Welcome to Varundotwine.
This website provides basic wine education from Adelaide, the wine capital of Australia, and is entirely free. Adelaide is known as Australia’s wine state because it makes half of the country’s bottled wine and 80% of its premium wines. Adelaide joined the prestigious Global network of Great Wine Capitals in July 2016. This is an internationally renowned group of 10 other wine regions. They are San Francisco – Napa Valley (US), Bordeaux (France), Bilbao/Rioja (Spain), Lausanne (Switzerland), Mainz – Rheinhessen (Germany), Mendoza (Argentina), Hawke’s Bay (New Zealand), Porto (Portugal), Valparaìso – Casablanca Valley (Chile), and Verona (Italy). Adelaide, South Australia, is the twelfth of the Global Group.
Varundotwine aims to support both amateur wine lovers aspiring to learn more about wines in general and students preparing for formal wine studies like WSET Level 1 and 2. Along with the job opportunities created by the increasing economic importance of wine and vineyards, the wine industry’s many new trends also encourage more people who are new to wine to pursue good quality wine education.
The growth of wine tourism, offering consumers interactive wine tasting experiences in wine-producing regions, is one of the most significant emerging trends. At these wine tasting events, wine experts and amateurs meet, sparking interest in learning the art and science of wine appreciation and how to pair wine with food. Another emerging trend is the usage of online channels by millennials, who prefer the ease and accessibility of digital platforms. The rise in international travel exposes travellers to new wine experiences, which motivates them to fill in their knowledge gap in wine.
Traditionally, wine has always been a matter of great cultural, social and economic significance in several parts of the world. Over 250 million hectolitres of wine, worth about 325 billion US dollars, are made and sold around the world every year.
Presently, Australia is the fourth-largest exporter of global wines, contributing approximately 7% of the global wine exports. The 65 wine-growing regions of Australia alone currently employ more than 160,000 people. Australia is home to over 2,000 wine producers and over 6,000 wine grape growers. The wine industry in Australia is more than just a local business. The cultural heritage and geography of Barossa Valley in Australia are inextricably linked with wine-making, as is the case in world-renowned wine regions such as Bordeaux in France, Tuscany in Italy, and Napa Valley in the United States.
Welcome to the fascinating world of wines.
